A School In Your Community
It takes a village to raise a child. We invite you to be a part of this village we have created, where we see each child as a unique individual and where all children can learn. We believe each child can succeed in a safe and nurturing environment. We believe each child can be nurtured and guided to learn how to learn, be independent and confident and be a part of this community we call Earth.
Culture, Science & Geography
Our prepared environments reflect the culture of our community and its village members. The culture, science and geography curriculums each seek to support a child’s budding interest in the world around them while connecting them to a view of the world that supports their global citizenship.
These activities isolate the senses and encourage children to use the five senses to understand the world around them. This area develops a child’s classification and discrimination skills. These skills take the child from concrete forms to abstract concepts, preparing the child for reading, writing and math.
In a Montessori classroom, writing comes before reading and it is taught through a highly sensorial sequence. Phonetic sounds are used instead of letter names and lower-case letters are used until the child is ready for handwriting. In the third year, children typically can read fluently and are well on their way to mastering writing.
Children in a Montessori classroom are exposed to a hands-on approach to number concepts and operations, quantity and symbol recognition, decimal system, fractions, skip counting, and geometry. Through concrete materials, the child will have a very firm understanding of each area before they work toward abstract ideas and complex equations.
These are the basic life skills setting the foundation for all other areas of development. Lessons are prepared to promote coordination, inspire a child’s sense of order and deepen concentration while fostering independence.

What is Montessori?
More than one hundred years ago, Doctor Maria Montessori believed that the critical period of learning for children was from birth to six years old. Today, scientific research has confirmed that 90 percent of a child’s brain is developed by age 5 years old. This is why choosing the right environment for your preschooler should be done with care and time.
The Montessori Method
This condensed explanation will acquaint you with the many advantages that Montessori offers your child.
- The Montessori Method has been time-tested for over 100 years and has achieved success throughout the world.
- Each child is taught and assessed individually.
- The child’s natural development of language is utilized in the process of learning to read.
- The child has the unique opportunity to fulfill his potential.
- Habits and skills developed in a Montessori classroom remain for a lifetime.
- The Montessori Classroom is a land of opportunity for the child and he or she considers it a truly joyful place to be.
- The teacher’s role is to give personal attention. She will not interfere with a child’s exploration, but will be readily available if help is required. She models behavior taught in the classroom.

“We were so lucky to find this small Montessori school in the midst of the pandemic when most schools were going remote. Our son has loved the experience, has been learning a ton and his behavior has improved considerably. While bigger private schools have had to close for weeks due to infections in their communities, the size of this intimate school and the utmost care the staff and the families of all the students showed have kept it open throughout — a blessing for kids and their parents in today’s pandemic-shaped world. The teacher and the director are dedicated, care about the kids, and great with their communication with us. This is a gem that I hope more parents will discover.”
“Our family owes so much to Townsville Montessori. Our son was enrolled at the age of 2 1/2 after a long period of isolation at home like many children. Like many parents, I had worried about his social and emotional development since he had very little peer interaction. I was also worried about whether he was receiving enough stimulation and engaging activities at home. Also, I had wondered if it was the right time to send him given the pandemic. Sending him to Townsville was the best decision we ever made.
On a social level, he now has so many friends he can count on to play with, bond with, converse and laugh with. I cannot stress how invaluable this is for an age group that is beginning to discover a world outside of their own needs and wants.
On an emotional level, he is offered opportunities daily to connect with his classmates and express and navigate the feelings that toddlers have in constructive ways. These kinds of experiences simply cannot be recreated at home.
In terms of education, Townsville offers so many beautiful tactile Montessori materials, as well as other engaging arts & activities to help children gain motor skills, independence and confidence. Their grace & courtesy program also gives children opportunities to grow their empathy, kindness and help fellow classmates in many different capacities.
It has truly been inspiring to watch my 2.5 year old engage, interact, communicate and empathize with his peers, and accomplish tasks such as caring for his environment, preparing, cutting fruit and making apple sauce with his friends, to name a few!
I wholeheartedly recommend Townsville to all families.”
“I put my 3-year-old daughter at Townsville Montessori School, and I couldn’t imagine a better environment for her. Since the pandemic hit in 2020, my daughter remained at home 100% of the time to the point where we believed she would lack certain social development.
At first, she was incredibly reserved and shy, but Ms. Julie’s class and approach quickly changed all that. We have seen substantial improvement in my daughter’s communication and interaction skills. And she’s fiercely independent and wants to do things on her own (cleaning up, going to the bathroom, washing her hands, eating meals, etc.) – a quality that we very much want her to have in the future.
Safety is also something that’s very important to us, and it’s a concern that Ms. Julie and the team take very seriously. Since we’ve enrolled our daughter at Townsville, we have not had so much as a sniffle as the school takes great precaution to ensure everyone is practicing safe protocols.
Unfortunately, we are moving out of the area, but should we have stayed, we would continue our daughter’s enrollment at Townsville until she’s no longer eligible! Highly recommend Ms. Julie and the team!”
